REMINDER! Town Hall for Families on Phase Two Reopening Plan is Tonight
Posted 12/16/20

Dear Santa Clara Unified Families and Staff,

On December 14, the Board of Trustees approved the district’s Phase Two Reopening Plan (en Español). We are grateful for the time and dedication of all the families, students, and staff who were a part of the many weeks of planning, committee meetings, community meetings, focus groups, and surveys. We want our students, families, and staff to feel as comfortable as possible returning to school.

Our plan balances the varying needs of our staff and families, and is designed to be adaptable to changing public health orders and guidelines in order to reduce disruptions to teaching and learning.

Highlights

  • Gradually expands in-person support and instruction when Santa Clara County reaches the Orange Tier of California’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy
  • Prioritizes students maintaining their current schedule and teacher. Phase two schedules are included in the Phase Two Reopening Plan (en Español) and will begin the first Monday after our county moves to the Orange Tier.
  • Prioritizes our cultural value of equity. All students will continue in distance learning. Students will be invited by their school site to attend their distance learning classes in-person based on equity criteria as outlined in the “Priority Students” section of the plan.
  • In-person class sizes will be approximately half of the total class enrollment.
  • In January, families will be surveyed on their return preference for each child in their home. Families who wish to keep their children in full distance learning will have that option.
  • All students, families, and staff will follow district and public health guidelines as outlined in the SCUSD COVID-19 Health and Safety Plan (en Español), including wearing face coverings, social distancing, and washing/sanitizing hands frequently.

Town Halls for Families

As a reminder, town halls for families are planned for tonight, December 16 to share highlights of the plan and answer questions. School sites will hold meetings for staff and families in early January to provide site-specific information and answer any additional questions.
