Welcome to the 2009-10 school year at Don Callejon School! We hope you had a wonderful summer, full of fun activities and quality time spent with your family. Get ready for a busy and exciting school year full of new and exciting learning experiences. Our outstanding teachers and staff have been working very hard to get the school and classrooms ready for your students. Whether you are a returning family, or new to the school, we know that you will enjoy our beautiful, state of the art campus and our terrific staff. We believe our school provides the ideal setting for the academic and social growth of each of our students.
As we plan for the new school year, it is very important for parents to stay involved in their child's education. The school will provide all students with a homework folder (grades K-3) or a student agenda (grades 4-8). These tools are your first line of communication with the school, and key to your students’ academic success. Please make sure your child uses these tools to keep track of assignments and important dates throughout the school year. In addition to these tools, each family will receive a weekly newsletter detailing important events and news of the week.
Parent involvement in school activities is critical for student and school success. Don Callejon School offers a variety of opportunities for parental involvement. Get involved with the DCSCO (Don Callejon School Community Organization; www.dcsco.org)--our outstanding parent/community group. Become a member of School Site Council and help to determine school goals and priorities. Take part in volunteer activities and work on campus in a classroom, the office, the library, or out on the schoolyard.
Our school has a technology focus. Therefore, we encourage you to bookmark our website (www.doncallejon.org), and check it frequently for school updates. Please fill out the form in this packet to learn about upcoming events and happenings at our school if you would prefer to receive electronic versions of the weekly newsletter rather than paper versions. All of our teachers and staff have email accounts—please feel free to communicate with our school staff by email. For middle school parents, the Pinnacle Student Information System offers you a chance to track your student’s progress and attendance in real time. Please be on the lookout for a letter and/or email detailing your student and parent login and password information for this system. We want to be accessible and easy to reach, so that we can partner with you to ensure student success.
As you may or may not know, our school is heavily impacted due to the phenomenal growth in the Rivermark Area. As a result, one fourth grade class, the combination 4/5th grade class and the 5th grade class have been moved upstairs into the B wing. Their exclusive entrance and exit will be through the door on the west side of the building near the front office doors. They will use the same upper grade bathroom facilities in the E wing as they have in previous years. We appreciate your understanding and support with this matter.
If a problem arises, please do not hesitate to contact the school with any questions or concerns that you may have. Please refer to the “Pathways for Communication” handout in this packet for more information on whom to contact for your issue.
We look forward to seeing you for the first day of school on Monday, August 24th!
