Absences
Don Callejon School has a computerized attendance system. All absences must be excused each day they occur. Excused absences are: Illness, medical/dental appointments or other emergencies. Unexcused absences are considered cuts.
When a student is absent from school for any reason, parents or guardians are to do the following: Telephone each day of absence, no later than 10:00 A.M. to the attendance office at 423-3305. Verification should include the following: Student name, name of person calling and relationship to the student, grade level or student ID number, reason for absence, date of absence, number of days absent.
Tardies
Students tardy to school must pick up a pass in the attendance office before going to their first period class. School policy states a student is tardy to any class period if he/she is not in his/her seat when the bell rings. A copy of the full tardy policy is included in the student handbook.
Vacations
We discourage parents from planning prolonged vacations during the school year, as these absences will be considered unexcused. As per Board policy, a student absent for 10 consecutive days shall be disenrolled from school. Additionally students will miss class assignments, which may affect their grade. If this cannot be avoided, please make arrangements for make-up work at least 1-2 weeks ahead of time with your child’s teachers and advise the attendance office.
